Welcome to St. Francis Xavier, Father Riley J. Williams

Father Riley J. Williams started in his role as Administrator of St. Francis Xavier Parish and School on June 28, 2017.  Fr. Williams is a native of Osterville, Massachusetts. Graduating from Bishop Stang High School in 2003, he went on to Franciscan University of Steubenville, from which he graduated in 2007 with a B.A. in philosophy with minors in theology and Latin.  He continued his studies in Rome, receiving a Bachelor’s in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University and a License in Sacred Theology with a concentration in moral theology from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross.

Fr. Williams was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop George W. Coleman at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Fall River on 9 July 2011.  After ordination he was briefly assigned to St. Mary’s Parish in Mansfield, followed by longer stints as parochial vicar at St. John the Evangelist & St. Vincent de Paul Parishes in Attleboro and Corpus Christi Parish in East Sandwich. Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha named him as administrator of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Acushnet in 2017.

The Summer Fun participants gave a warm welcome and all students, parents, and staff of the school will welcome Fr. Williams more formally in the fall.

Msgr. Gerard O’Connor – Appointment to the Archdiocese of Portland, Oregon

Each year, there are various transfers of priests announced throughout the diocese, and Monsignor O’Connor shared with his parishioners recently that he will be leaving St. Francis Xavier Parish at the end of June this year.

We have been blessed by Monsignor O’Connor’s leadership.  The greatest gift that he leaves us with is a cultivated faith.  It is a legacy of nine years of prayerful service, which at it’s center always intended to lead us to prioritize a deep love of Our Lord in our daily lives.  Please join us in praying in gratitude for the past nine years, for Monsignor’s future work in the vineyard, for our future pastor Fr. Williams, and for an increase in priestly vocations which inspire us to holiness.
