ELEMENTARY - Kindergarten through Grade 5

Guided by Faith • Focused on Growth

Our accredited curriculum aligns with the Diocese of Fall River’s rigorous standards and the Common Core State Standards (as appropriate) to ensure academic excellence and spiritual formation. Our Catholic Faith is embedded across content areas.

Academic Subjects

Each area of study is thoughtfully designed to foster intellectual curiosity and foundational skills:

  • Religious Education – Rooted in Catholic tradition, students explore Scripture, moral values, liturgical life, and active discipleship.
  • Language Arts & Literacy – From phonics to creative writing and literature appreciation.
  • Mathematics – Hands‑on exploration in number sense, problem-solving, geometry, and—where readiness supports it—preparation for algebra concepts.
  • Science – Inquiry-based learning with STEM integration, lab experiments, and real-world application.
  • Social Studies – Understanding communities, history, geography, and civic responsibility.
  • Spelling & Handwriting – Building strong written communication (Grades K–5 spelling; K–2 printing refinement Grades 3-5 cursive instruction).
  • Creative & Performing Arts – Art and Music are woven into daily routines and are a special class once weekly.
  • Physical Education – Promoting movement, fitness, and teamwork occurs once weekly.
  • World Languages – Early exposure to the Spanish languages through engaging songs, basic vocabulary, conversational phrases, and cultural celebrations.

Technology & STEM

At Saint Francis Xavier Elementary School, we thoughtfully integrate technology into our curriculum through Chromebook access, ensuring students are prepared for an increasingly digital world beginning in K.

At the same time, we believe that not all learning should happen on a screen. Our students spend meaningful time reading physical books, writing by hand, engaging in face-to-face discussions, and building projects without devices. We recognize that children are often surrounded by technology at home, so we strive to create a healthy balance that nurtures focus, creativity, and deep thinking.

Character & Faith Integration

Lessons of faith, service, and moral development are woven into every part of the day. Through Scripture, classroom discussions, prayer, and community service, students are encouraged to live out the Gospel in real and meaningful ways.

Living the liturgical life is central to our school culture. Students actively participate in school-wide Masses, feast day celebrations, seasonal devotions like the Rosary and Stations of the Cross, and the liturgical seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter. These experiences help children internalize the rhythms of the Church year and see their faith as a living, growing part of daily life.

Study Habits & Lifelong Learning

We reinforce strong academic habits—organization, time management, reflection, and resilience. Homework builds on classroom learning, with an average daily expectation of 10 minutes per grade level and thoughtfully designed weekend assignments when needed.

Family Engagement & Communication

Parents are valued partners. Each grade maintains an interactive classroom website, and many teachers use weekly newsletters and FACTS Parent Portal to keep families connected with learning highlights and upcoming events.
