This year’s school theme of being Disciples of Christ, encapsulated the idea of standing out and glowing amidst challenges. Our school community has certainly accomplished that!
At this year’s gala, we will also honor and recognize Mr. & Mrs. Raymond Davignon as our Cornerstone Award recipients. The D’s unwavering support and dedication to our parish school throughout the years has been incredible. Please plan on joining us (and Mrs. D) on August 12th at the Century House to also celebrate the gift that they both are and have been to St. Francis!
The evening will be an opportunity for fun, fellowship and fundraising. The monies raised during the event will help us to continue to provide excellence in all capacities here at St. Francis.

Applications for the 2020-2021 as well as the 2021-2022 school year (Preschool 3 and 4 year old’s through Grade 8) are available online. Please click to visit our admissions page if you wish to apply.
**Please note:
- Due to the safety guidelines set forth by DESE for in-person instruction curing the Covid-19 pandemic, we have begun a waitlist for new family applicants for all grades. If you wish to be placed on that waitlist, please submit an electronic application and make note of your intention. Registration fee (per child) is only due if you are called off the waitlist. We will review the medical landscape of our school community and geographic area regularly. Adjustments to our in-person learning model will only be made every 30 days, and will be dependent upon the health and safety standards necessary at that time.
- Preschool sections are filled on a first-come first-serve basis.
- Grades K-8 applicants will be contacted by the school to schedule a virtual appointment as a part of the admissions process. Getting to know our students and school families, in order to create a successful partnership in learning, is a priority of this administration.

This break has been a great opportunity to decompress, and adjust our bearings for school to begin again on the 4th of January.
The New Bedford Department of Public Health has been in consultation with the Catholic Schools Office, and wants to acknowledge and extend their gratitude for the commendable job of teachers and students in maintaining a safe and healthy climate for in-person learning since Sept 1st. As you know, our school community has been vigilant, honest, and urged to be responsible in regards to their decisions to gather socially during the recent holidays. In light of our commitment, it is a stark reality that the number of positive COVID cases in our area is on the rise. That being said, the number of positive cases has increased the transmission rates in Acushnet, and so the next few weeks will add a level of increased vigilance that is necessary for the continued health and well being of our staff and students.
While sustaining an in-person model of learning is important to all of us…the health of our staff and students is even more important. Maintaining this mode of learning comes with great sacrifice and it is dependent upon each of our (1) decisions to follow the guidelines, (2) our transparency in regards to our social decisions, (3) our ability to accept the consequences to our decisions, and (4) our willingness to take responsibility and be inconvenienced for the greater good.
Taking what we know about COVID-19 transmission in this area, and now variants to the virus, we must proceed with great caution, and so we have made the following decisions for our school community:
- It is our strong recommendation and absolute expectation that those families that chose to gather with others (outside of the immediate household) during the holiday break will keep their children home and will engage in remote learning for at least the first week that we return. The number of positive cases is expected to rise in the area based on the social gatherings during the holidays, and we cannot afford to allow the decisions made by some to have an impact on our school community.
- It is strongly recommended and preferred that all family members who travelled over the holidays be tested prior to their return to school, which exceeds the minimum guidance from the state.
- It is a responsible decision and absolutely necessary for you to keep your child (as well as all siblings) home from school if he/she or any household family member has even ONE of the COVID symptoms, as listed on our school checklist, and if symptomatic, to follow our protocols for reentry in regards to testing and quarantine. Please be advised that if testing does take place, we are only accepting PCR results at this time.
- It is strongly recommended that all in-person preschoolers, kindergarteners and first graders wear masks while at school in the coming weeks. Older students in grades 2-8 will be reminded of proper mask use and the need for covering both nose and mouth at all times.
- We are blessed to have remote learning as an option, and therefore welcome and expect to see an increased number of students learning from home during the course of the next few weeks. If remote learning is the reality for your family situation, please inform your child(ren)’s teacher so they can plan accordingly.
We did experience a slight increase in close contacts after the Thanksgiving break, and would like to avoid any impact of decisions made over the Christmas break on our school community by having families opt into remote learning for the week of Jan 4-8 ahead of time. Please help us to continue to maintain a healthy school environment for the continuation of our school year in 2021.

An event like no other… is sure to be a “virtual” crowd pleaser!
We are looking forward to December 4th at 6pm, when this virtual event will be launched and we will celebrate the gifts and talents of our amazing SFX students!
PLEASE take the time to read the following IMPORTANT GUIDELINES pertaining to submitted Talent Show videos. Students/families that do not adhere to these guidelines will not be considered for participation in the Talent Show.
Students/families will submit their videos demonstrating and celebrating their talent(s) using the directions provided HERE by Friday November 27th at 8pm.

Special highlights of the evening will include (but not be limited to) the following:
- A voting website link will be provided for families to vote on their favorite acts! YOU DECIDE THE WINNERS!
- Prize teasers will be a part of the evening’s fun!
- An Interactive Buzz Word Contest for everyone at home!
- A “Guest Host” Option! If your child wants to be involved, without showcasing a specific talent. he/she can sign up to be a guest host with Mrs. Russo. Guest Hosts will have the opportunity to introduce a contestant to add to the evening’s fun. Students interested in being a Guest Host please see Mrs. Russo to sign up!

Our school community’s health depends on your actions and social responsibilities. In an effort to keep our school fully open in the current model we are in, we are asking families to be extra diligent and cautious.
As we approach the many holidays ahead, please do all you can to follow the best practices that the Department of Public Health has outlined when gathering outside of school time:
- Limit gathering size: Indoor gatherings at private residences are limited to 10 people, and outdoor gatherings at private residences are limited to 25 people.
- Individuals should stay within their household: For a lower-risk celebration, people should limit in-person holiday gatherings to only people they live with or limit the gathering to a small group of individuals with whom they are regularly in contact.
- Avoid travel: Anyone considering travel should review and abide by Massachusetts travel orders, and people who want to travel to another state that is not a lower-risk state should be aware of the quarantine requirements involved with such travel.
